The eBay gift card market has two separate questions in July 2026: what existing cards are worth in naira, and what happens when eBay changes the sale of new cards. Existing cards remain redeemable under eBay’s announcement, so the live rate still matters, but sellers and buyers should understand the policy date.
Live USA eBay rate
Latest tracked rate: 911.80₦ per dollar. Updated: 2026-08-13.
Using the 2026-07-17 row of NGN 911.80 per dollar, the estimated values were NGN 91,180 for $100, NGN 182,360 for $200 and NGN 455,900 for $500. Recalculate from the displayed row after any new update.
The seven recent rows through July 17 ranged from NGN 907.46 to NGN 914.77 per dollar. For a $100 card, that range changes the estimate by NGN 731. A bigger discount in a buyer’s offer is more likely to reflect card history, account linkage, proof or current demand than normal movement in that short period.
eBay’s August 3 sales change
eBay’s official gift card help page says online sales of new eBay-issued gift cards will stop on 2026-08-03, with physical retail availability expected to phase out as stock is depleted. The same notice says existing eBay gift cards remain valid and can continue to be used.
This change may affect future supply and buyer demand, but it does not justify inventing a rate movement before the table records one. Watch the dated market row rather than assuming scarcity will automatically raise the price.
The announcement also creates a timing distinction. A card purchased before August 3 can remain valid after that date, while proof of purchase may become more useful as retail availability declines. Keep the original receipt or digital delivery record so the issue source remains clear after new sales stop.
US account and shipping rules affect demand
eBay’s gift card page explains that redemption requires a US-registered eBay account and US shipping address. Cards cannot be used for other gift cards, bullion, coins, paper money or virtual currency. A remaining balance becomes linked to the account after use.
Those restrictions are important to a buyer because they define the practical market for the code. A valid balance can still be unsuitable for an account that does not meet the US requirements.
Once a gift card is used, any remaining balance can become linked to that eBay account and unavailable to another account. A partly used card is therefore not equivalent to an unused card showing the same remaining balance. State whether the code has ever been applied before asking for a quote.
Evidence for an existing card
- Show the USD denomination and whether the card is physical or digital.
- Keep the redemption code covered.
- Retain the purchase receipt or original delivery email.
- State whether any part of the balance has already been used or linked.
- Use eBay’s own account and balance routes for verification.
eBay warns users not to give a code to anyone outside eBay checkout. A resale transaction carries risks beyond the issuer’s intended use, so the cardholder should review the official terms and protect the code throughout any verification process.
Read a quote after the policy change
Compare the buyer’s total payout with the USA eBay rate page. Ask whether the quote applies to existing cards issued before the sales phase-out and whether previously linked cards are accepted. Policy headlines should not replace card-level checks.
Current conclusion
The live rate above is the relevant estimate for an unused USA eBay gift card. The August 3 change concerns sales of new eBay-issued cards, not the validity of existing balances. Keep those two facts separate when describing value or forecasting demand.
How the newest eBay row and its update date are surfaced is explained in GiftCardsRate’s Rate Methodology.
