Gift Card Security Checklist for Nigeria
A quoted Naira amount tells you nothing about whether a buyer is trustworthy. Complete these checks before sharing any card information.
Before requesting a quote
- Identify the brand, issuing country, currency, face value and physical or digital form without exposing the code.
- Keep the original receipt and activation evidence private. Redact codes, payment-card details and personal information when a non-sensitive summary is enough.
- Check the issuer’s regional redemption rules. A Nigerian estimate does not make an overseas card redeemable on a Nigerian account.
Before sending a code
- Verify the business independently through its own established website and support channels. A forwarded WhatsApp profile or a large quote is not verification.
- Ask for the exact net NGN amount, fees, acceptance conditions and dispute process in writing.
- Never pay an “unlock”, tax or verification fee in gift cards. Do not install remote-access software or share a banking OTP.
- Do not send a full code just to obtain a rate estimate. Our calculator never needs it.
If something goes wrong
Stop further transfers. Save receipts, messages, URLs and payment references. Contact the issuer using its official support site; if money moved, contact the bank or payment provider promptly. Recovery is not guaranteed. Nigerian consumers can review the FCCPC complaint process.
